Each fall, the Kansas Motor Carriers Association holds its annual convention. This industry-wide event provides educational opportunities for members and their employees, as well as allows KMCA's allied members to network with carrier members and discuss the latest technology in equipment and services.

The 2010 Annual Convention, September 21-23 at the Grand Prairie Hotel and Convention Center in Hutchinson, Kan. was full of important information for trucking companies across Kansas. Wednesday Morning started off with Former Governor and current President and CEO of American Trucking Association Bill Graves, giving an update on the current economic outlook in the trucking business. He then gave an overview of current industry issues including: CSA 2010, Hours of Service, Distracted Driving, Highway Reauthorization, Fuel Effi ciency Standards, and Labor Initiatives.
Michael Matteuzzi, Partner with Waldeck, Matteuzzi and Sloan, P.C. law firm, kicked off the educational seminars with his presentation on how-to best protect yourself in case of a crash involving one of your trucks. After Michael, Hoon Ge, with Meg Corp, Fuel Consulting, presented information on Alternative Fuels. The third presenter was Tim Wiseman, Managing Partner with Scopelitis, Garvin, Light, Hanson & Feary, P.C. Law Firm, talked about the key features and factors with CSA 2010, problems with CSA 2010 methodology, potential impact and implications of CSA 2010 and the how to prepare yourself for CSA 2010. The final speaker of the day was Max Strathman, FMCSA’s Kansas Division Administrator. Max talked about the changes to CSA 2010. Max was also the luncheon speaker delivering a message from FMCSA’s Administrator, Anne Ferro.
Wednesday evening’s banquet was full of great food and great entertainment. Mark Mayfield made everyone de-stress and laugh by making us look at things in a different way.
Thursday morning started off with Martin Hawver giving an overview of the upcoming Kansas elections. Martin gave a comedic view of the important national and local races for 2010. After a delicious breakfast and an informative presentation, golfers headed out to Highland golf course for a soggy day on the links.
The 2010 Annual KMCA Convention was a success. There were more than 120 attendees this year. We look forward to next year’s joint convention in Branson, Missouri with the Missouri Trucking Association.
